Vision & Mission
Care that respects comfort, dignity and family
Palliative care at RMD sits at the centre of the group: relief of suffering, support for the family, and a calm environment for people living with serious illness. The approach carries through into our home care, elderly and rehabilitation services.
Alongside this we run well-established surgical practice in piles and hernia, and age-related care in dementia, senior living and geriatrics.

RMD Group of Hospitals in Chennai has grown from a modest beginning into a long-standing centre for community healthcare, serving families across the city and its neighbouring towns. The hospital's identity has always been shaped by a simple promise: treat every patient with dignity, warmth and clinical discipline. That promise is most visible in the palliative care programmes, where comfort, symptom relief and emotional support sit at the heart of everyday work alongside skilled medical management.
Palliative care is not simply end-of-life care; it is a specialised approach to living well with serious illness at any stage. The team's focus is on anticipating and addressing pain, breathlessness, fatigue, nausea and other sources of discomfort, while also offering psychological, social and family counselling. The aim is to improve quality of life so that patients and their loved ones face difficult days with greater ease, dignity and confidence.
Patients arriving for palliative treatment often arrive exhausted and uncertain, having already navigated a confusing journey of diagnoses and referrals. The hospital's approach begins with listening, taking time to understand symptoms, fears and personal priorities before any plan is discussed. From there, care is coordinated across professionals, with follow-up built around the changing needs of each individual rather than a fixed schedule.
Alongside palliative medicine, RMD is known for piles surgery, a service frequently sought by patients who have delayed treatment out of embarrassment or uncertainty. Modern, advanced techniques including laser-based procedures are offered alongside more traditional approaches, allowing the team to match each patient with a method suited to their condition and comfort. Careful counselling and clear communication help patients make informed decisions without pressure.
Cancer palliative care forms a central pillar of the hospital's work. Managing cancer means more than treating disease; it means addressing treatment-related weakness, pain and anxiety, and helping patients adjust to a body and routine that may feel unfamiliar. The interdisciplinary involvement of clinicians, nursing staff and counsellors allows support to extend beyond the ward, touching the wider family unit during what are inevitably challenging times.
The physical environment supports the care offered within it. Wide corridors, calm interiors and access to natural light and greenery create a restful atmosphere, a deliberate contrast to the clinical intensity of a busy hospital. Full-bleed photographic bands of blue and green tones, paired with soft neutral backgrounds, give the site's design a quiet, reflective quality that mirrors the contemplative nature of palliative work.
Skilled nursing forms the backbone of daily patient care. The nursing team at RMD is trained not only in the practical management of comfort measures and medication routines, but also in the quieter skills of observation, reassurance and presence. Because patients in palliative care depend so heavily on consistent, familiar faces, continuity between staff and families is treated as an essential part of the service rather than an administrative detail.
Support for senior citizens and those living with dementia or requiring rehabilitation has been a long-standing commitment. Geriatric care at RMD focuses on safety, mobility, nutrition, fall prevention and the involvement of family caregivers, who frequently carry the greatest burden. The rehabilitation programme works to restore function after surgery or illness, helping older adults retain independence and remain active participants in their own homes and communities.
The hospital's services extend into several specialities, with hernia and general surgical care handled by experienced surgeons working alongside supportive nursing and rehabilitation teams. Each of these areas reflects the same underlying philosophy: advanced treatment combined with attentive, compassionate follow-up, ensuring that recovery continues long after discharge and that patients feel accompanied rather than abandoned once they return home.
For families searching for palliative care in Chennai, RMD Group of Hospitals offers a setting where expertise and empathy are held in equal measure. The institution's decades of service have built a reputation built on trust, and that trust is earned daily through careful listening, skilled symptom management and genuine concern for the people behind each patient. Choosing a hospital for difficult times is a deeply personal decision, and this is where reassurance matters most.
